So here's another little project I felt inclined to do. I haven't drawn Marie in YEARS and it's nice to finally bring her back.
In the story, she is noted as Andre's late wife, who had passed away a couple years before his entrance into Shepherd Valley Sanatorium. Despite her not physically being in the story, she plays an important role.
After her passing from a boating accident, Andre finds himself in a dark depression, feeling that he had lost his very reason for existence. Because of this, he begins to neglect himself including his appearance and health, thereby leading to his tuberculosis. However, instead of being upset about his illness, Andre embraces it as a chance to be once again reunited with his wife. This, of course brings about one of the tragic plot points in the story, where Andre has the idea that once he succumbs to his consumption, he'll be happy once again.
